HR Intern Diaries: First Day, Big Wins, and Real Adventures

Through their internships at Globe, Kat and Xavier discovered that growth can come from small, meaningful wins—whether it's seeing their ideas recognized, contributing to team efforts, or bringing joy to others. They leave not just with new skills, but with a stronger sense of self and the belief that their work can inspire.

Former HR Communications Intern, Human Resources Team

On my first day at Globe, I remember being unusually quiet despite naturally being an extrovert and a social butterfly. I can’t quite recall who or what greeted me first but what kept running through my mind was “You’ll get through today” and “You’ll figure it out along the way”

Guess what I needed to figure out first… how to press the elevator floor control (just me in my own world, but internally suffering.) Amid those small first-day challenges, I was stepping into a role I had long hoped for.

I am Bea Katrina Mitre (Kat), a Communication Research major from Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP). From May to July 2025, I took on the role of HR Communications Intern at Globe Telecom under the Human Resources team on employer branding, activations, and communications.

When I first found out I got this internship, I was overjoyed to have a chance with a company everyone described as having a healthy and supportive culture. But alongside that excitement was a ripple of anxiety: what if this big, fast-paced environment overwhelms me, and I end up disappointing people?

Despite this, I was drawn to Globe because I kept hearing stories of a workplace culture that values people as much as performance—it was a place where ideas are heard and individuality is celebrated. This made Globe feel less like a corporate giant and more like a community that uplifts and empowers. I wanted to be part of that, not just to build my career, but to grow in an environment that inspires me to create, connect, and make a difference.

“What drew me to Globe wasn’t just its reputation as a top company, but the warmth, pride, and sense of belonging people shared when they talked about it.”

Throughout my internship, there were two moments that stood out to me.

The first was when I joined a brainstorming session for Globe Pride Day. I doubted myself and was worried that I wouldn’t be able to express my thoughts well. I spent a few hours beforehand trying to settle my mind and organize my ideas. I’m comfortable with public speaking when it’s with fellow students, but this was different—these were seasoned professionals. It almost felt like I was defending a thesis in front of a panel ready to roast my idea (thankfully, they didn’t!).

The second moment was when I curated content and activations to empower women and the LGBTQIA+ community. This project boosted my confidence in presenting to my leads, and my ideas were even chosen as a favorite. What made me most proud was knowing I could use my platform to highlight the struggles women face daily and propose ways to support and empower them through creative initiatives.

“On that day, it wasn’t just about me as Kat the intern, it was about representing women, amplifying voices, and proving that even fresh perspectives can make an impact.”
My first ever major event that I am so proud to say that I am a part of it from start to finish. Had to face with NUMEROUS people, and at the end of the day, my social battery is still thriving LOL 😂

I thought this internship would just be about learning skills and finishing requirements, but it turned out to be so much more. I discovered that my ideas had weight, that my voice could stand in a room full of professionals, and that growth often comes when you least expect it. I saw myself improve, not just in skills, but in courage.

This internship taught me that purpose isn’t just about ticking tasks off a list, it’s about the why behind the work. As a student, I used to see myself mainly through grades, deadlines, and academic requirements. But here, I learned that what truly matters is how your ideas touch people, how your work represents something bigger than yourself, and how you grow from every challenge.

I walked into Globe with no clear expectations, only a quiet hope that I could find my place in such a big and unfamiliar world. What I never could have predicted were the people—my co-interns, the ones I loved sharing clingy desk arrangements with. On day one, we were strangers, awkwardly exchanging names and small talk. Soon, we became friends, sharing inside jokes, lunch breaks, and late-night chats about deadlines.

“By the end, we were a family that celebrated each other’s wins, lifted each other during tough days, and created a bond that went far beyond the internship.”

My time at Globe made the dream of turning ideas into something that inspires and empowers others feel more possible. I’ve always imagined working where creativity meets purpose, and now I know I can thrive there. I now have a clearer vision of the professional I want to become: someone who blends creativity with purpose and works with empathy.

For future Globe interns, my advice would be to say yes to every opportunity, speak up, ask questions, and remember that your time here isn’t just about completing tasks—it’s about building connections and leaving a mark. You might walk in feeling like “just an intern,” but if you give it your best, you’ll leave knowing you’ve made a real impact.

"Globe showed me that 'Create Everyday Possibilities' isn’t just a slogan, but a mindset—the belief that each day, in every role, we can create something meaningful."

That’s the promise I’m carrying forward: to keep creating, keep learning, and keep making a difference, one possibility at a time. I want to keep creating everyday possibilities not just for me, but for the people I work with, the communities I serve, and the stories I tell. The small moments I am bound to experience, when embraced fully, can open doors I never imagined.

Former Employee Engagement Intern, Human Resources Team

My whole experience at Globe felt so surreal that it will always hold a special place in my heart, not just because of the tasks I accomplished but also because of the people I met and the unforgettable memories I made.

“Beyond Globe’s role as a telecommunications provider, what stood out to me was its dynamic work culture that empowers people and embraces forward-thinking practices.”

I am Xavier Contreras, a former Employee Engagement Intern, studying BS Communications Technology Management at Ateneo de Manila University. Globe was my first ever internship, and I always wondered what it was like to work corporate. From the commute to simply going up the elevator, every part of my first day was something new and exciting.

Going into my first taste of corporate life, I expected a work environment that ran like robotic clockwork, with rigid routines and constant formal reporting. However, my experience changed that perception. I saw how the culture emphasized trust, flexibility, and clear objectives over strict formality.

There was a sense of trust and flexibility that made the workplace feel human and empowering, and I immediately experienced this culture after joining the HR group—all thanks to the inclusive environment they had cultivated.

Working with the Employee Engagement team meant helping cultivate a positive, inclusive environment for Ka-Globes. I handled both conceptualizing and executing events and campaigns, gaining hands-on experience in project management and creative ideation. Through this, I learned how to design initiatives that boost morale, foster connection, and align with the company’s culture and values.

One of my most memorable tasks included designing promotional dynamic media materials for the Greencredible Journey food pop-ups. I didn’t expect it, but I was surprised to see my materials shown around The Globe Tower—from the little TVs in the office to the giant screen in the lobby. I felt rewarded knowing my work was seen by countless people daily.

“It felt really fulfilling to know that my work would be reaching hundreds, maybe thousands, of people everyday. It was an opportunity I’m grateful to have worked on.”

My dream of bringing joy to others came alive during my internship, where I helped create a supportive and fulfilling environment for employees. This experience showed me that the skills I’ve learned can find me a career in Human Resources, especially with events management and communications.

Although I initially thought my background primed me for a career in marketing, this internship broadened my perspective and strengthened my abilities. It has become a valuable foundation for my future—whether as a marketer, an events manager, or a combination of both.

Ultimately, to fulfill my dream of spreading joy, I know I must first live it myself. I’m not sure where I’ll end up, but I make this promise to myself: as long as I do it with a smile, I’ll be exactly where I’m meant to be—whether that’s with Globe or another company.
