The story behind Globe’s first-ever Pride March

Updated: Mar 25

On June 18, 2024, Globe had a Pride March for the first time, led by the Finance Control team. Below, Jake Ison tells the story of the history-making event.

Organizing the first-ever Pride March at Globe wasn’t actually part of our plan.

A gay colleague randomly suggested it, initially only here at Fin Control. I instantly knew that we had to do it. I wanted to show that there are people who care, who stand together with our LGBTQIA+ community here in Globe. Luckily, destiny played along and turned a simple suggestion into something with a greater purpose.

A happy workplace starts with its people. Happy Pride!

Our head, Chan Nicolas, had a vision of inspiring and motivating people; I had a vision of a happy workplace. These two together played a large part in pushing this parade. While planning, I realized this will inspire and motivate lots of people, and a happy workplace starts with its people. We wanted to show everyone that our company embraces each and every one of us, regardless of gender or status in life.

This was a march for love, acceptance, and inclusivity!

As the day of the march approached, it turned into a Globe-wide event. Everything evolved so quickly and I felt overwhelmed. Still, I grabbed the opportunity as I felt this really was destined – our plans were meant to serve a bigger purpose. There was not enough time to plan, but everyone on the team believed we could do it.

We also wanted to handle it sensitively. We didn’t want to make people uncomfortable, but instead show the bigger picture of why we celebrate Pride.

At first, the team was anxious as there were less than ten people coming. Some allies were very excited and some wanted to support but were hesitant to join.

In the end, we had 79 attendees. I was overwhelmingly happy because the support was way beyond my expectations. The statement we made will surely leave a positive long-term effect on our workplace. It is true that all big things started small. I hope this initiative ignited the hearts of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies in Globe. Who knows, maybe we will get to inspire and motivate people outside our workplace in the future.

Thankful for every person who helped with and supported the event.

It means a lot to organize Globe’s first Pride March. It is an honor to organize a company-wide event, inspiring others and making Globe an even happier workplace.

I want to thank our dear HR, Corpcomm, Security, and Facilities and Building partners for this wonderful initiative.

I want to thank my leaders Chan Nicolas and Shiela Jimenez, and the rest of Fin Ctrl Mancom for empowering and believing in me and our EE Team.

I am most grateful to my EE Team for leading this parade with me.

Thanks to the PPM Team and the whole Fin Ctrl for the never-ending support. These people are the one that gives me strength with all our engagements.

Having Fin Control and the whole Finance Group beside me makes everything worthwhile.

Ka-Globe, together let us make our company the happiest place to work in. By celebrating Pride, we are showing to everyone that we are united as one. Let us embrace our differences and be proud of who we are.

To our LGBTQIA+ community, never stop believing in yourselves and always make Globe a better workplace everyday.

To my co-allies, thank you for your warm support. This gesture means a lot. We are empowering great people!

Ka-Globe, may we continue to build an inclusive Globe for all this Pride and beyond. Let’s wish everyone a happy Pride in the comments below!
