I am Daisy Beñas, a former intern at Globe Telecom. During my internship, I was assigned to the Core Technology Strategy Department, under Technology Strategy and Innovation (TSI) group. TSI’s main goal is to focus on shaping Globe’s long-term direction, as well as researching the emerging technologies, optimizing network infrastructure, and to support initiatives towards sustainability and innovation.

I’ve always been interested in technology and telecommunications, and Globe has consistently stood out to me as a leader in innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation in the Philippines.

I was especially drawn to Globe’s strong push for future-ready solutions in areas that strongly align with both my Electronics Engineering background and my passion for innovation.

It all started when our organization’s founder, Sir Patrick Hulipas from Radio Engineering Circle, invited us to attend Inovannia, an event organized by Globe. I enjoyed exploring the vendor booths, and I even won a minor prize! During the event, I found out that interns played a role in making it happen, which really caught my attention.

I always thought, "ang saya siguro maging intern sa Globe kung may ganitong klaseng exposure and experience," because of how Globe involves the intern in every decision-making phase.

A month later, a friend told me that Globe Telecom was looking for interns; I didn’t hesitate to apply. I saw this as an opportunity to learn, grow, and experience being in a company that focuses on innovation and provides real-world experience for students like me.

First, I applied because I wanted to stay productive while waiting for my graduation, and the start of my board exam review, but I ended up witnessing the growth, and be the person I aspire to be. Fortunately, I was selected and assigned in a team which turned out to be a great fit for my interests in tech, research, and sustainability.

The first few weeks of being an intern, we were focused on orientation and a series of introductions within the team, and familiarization of the workflow. At first, I was nervous because it was a completely new environment for me. This was a first for me, as I am not used to working in a corporate setting. But despite the “first day” jitters, the team and supervisors were very welcoming which helped me feel more comfortable.

I became more confident, more curious, and more motivated to pursue a career in tech and innovation. Globe gave me a space to grow and explore what I’m capable of, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

Specifically, my work involved both research and strategic initiatives. I was able to research emerging technologies, and best practices in the industry to further contribute to the team’s strategic decision-making. I can say that my deliverables have helped me strengthen my ability to draw meaningful conclusions from complex datasets.

Throughout the internship, I rotated through different business units to gain a broader understanding of the company’s operations, customer focus, and product goals. I also became adept at navigating the company’s internal systems and tools, which gave me practical exposure to how a large-scale telecommunications company functions at the operational level.

My day to day as an intern at Globe varied depending on the team’s objective for the week. For the first two weeks, I was assigned to monitor stock market data, which involved updating records and keeping track of daily figures for internal use, afterwards focusing more on research and project support.

I was also empowered to aid in project management through report preparation and team coordination.

More than that, I had the opportunity to participate in several webinars that expanded my knowledge on both technical and well-being topics, reflecting Globe's holistic employee care.

My varied routine included event coordination, note-taking, and continuous skill development through LinkedIn Learning courses, making the experience dynamic and enriching.

My experience assisting at the Valero Testing Site allowed me to visualize how telecom equipment and technologies are tested before they’re rolled out. It helped me connect what I’d learned through research to actual field operations.

It was the first time I got hands-on experience with something that technical, and it was both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. Another unique experience was helping with the testing of Augmented Reality (AR) tools that could potentially be used for training and customer service.

It was interesting to explore how Globe is thinking ahead when it comes to improving the way people learn and interact through technology.

Liveable Cities Lab on Electric Vehicles, and Huawei-Globe Innovation Day

There are several internal events at Globe that made my internship experience more meaningful, and full of purpose such as the TSI Year-End program, the Huawei-Globe Innovation Day, and Liveable Cities Lab on Electric Vehicles.

Outreach programs for Aeta communities, and ShareDugo blood donation drive

I also had the chance to participate in humanitarian activities such as the Sharedugo Blood donation drive, outreach programs for Aeta communities, food packing, and the Paskong Makulay Christmas Workshop for children. I can say that these experiences reminded me of the importance of giving back.

Globe showed me that sustainability isn’t a one-time effort, it’s a continuous responsibility. And as I continue my journey as an aspiring engineer, I’ll do my best to apply that by supporting projects that are not only innovative but also environmentally and socially responsible.

My mentors played a big role in making this internship enjoyable and purposeful. Special shoutout to my Globe mentors in the Core Network Technology team - Sir Bryril Alvarez, Sir Peter John Custodio, Sir Edmar Peñaflorida, and Ma’am Dodie Grandea. They played a big role in making my Globe experience very meaningful and full of learning.

Their guidance honed not only technical skills but also my confidence. They treated me and my co-interns as a part of the team, and motivated me to give my best. Their mentorship helped me be confident, and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and give more than what I thought I could only provide.

Events like the Globe Year-End Party (Groove as One) and Telcochella made everything more fun and memorable. Through all of these, I didn’t just learn technical skills. I learned how to communicate better, be more organized, and work with a team. I became more confident, more curious, and more motivated to pursue a career in tech and innovation. Globe gave me a space to grow and explore what I’m capable of, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

After everything I learned and experienced during my internship at Globe, I’m honestly excited to explore more about emerging technologies. Being part of projects that focused on those areas opened my eyes to how big an impact technology can have.

What also excites me about the future is knowing that everything I learned during my internship at Globe is something I’ll carry with me with pride.

The knowledge, the experiences, and even the small lessons from day-to-day tasks have helped shape the way I think as an aspiring engineer. I’m proud to say that I had the chance to be part of a company that values innovation, purpose, and people.

I just passed the ECT last April 2025, which was a huge milestone for me. Now, I am preparing to apply for opportunities that align with my goals.

Uncertainties are everywhere, but I am excited to figure out what’s next for me. All I am sure is that my internship at Globe opened my eyes to the path I want to take. I want to keep learning through training, certifications, and real-world experiences.

I desire to be part of a team where I can apply what I’ve learned, to be able to contribute to meaningful projects, and to make a positive impact; things that Globe helped me to witness.
