Globe is... where I feel empowered to be my best self

In Globe, you have the freedom and power to bring extraordinary things to life. Irish Almeida, Vice President - Governance, Risk, and Compliance of ISDP & AIG, shares what everyday possibilities she has made happen.

In 2019, when I first joined the Information Security and Data Privacy team, only very few people were doing data privacy. The past five years turned out to be a period of immense growth and transformation. I went from an individual contributor to a people manager, managing 20 people in my team. 

This is, of course, thanks to my leaders and teammates who are all such joys to work with. We’re under the leadership of our Group Head Anton Bonifacio, and he encourages us to think outside the box and push boundaries – and we feel very supported when we do so. I think that’s what makes us confident to reach for our goals and to do things that are not usual or conventional.

In fact, I gave birth to my youngest daughter during the pandemic, and all throughout my maternity leave, I felt so supported. My boss and our Group Head, Anton, was very understanding, even telling me not to check my emails while I was on leave. My teammates really held down the fort while I was away.

Toward the end of my maternity leave, I was looking forward to going back to work knowing that I could produce the best work and still be fully present as a wife and mother. 

Not to mention we have really great medical coverage, so from maternity to the check-up of my kids, Globe has it all covered. It’s one less thing I have to think about. We also have access to mental health services, and I know a lot of us had to face similar challenges especially during the pandemic, so it was something I truly appreciated.

I’m also really happy that Globe is one of the few companies in the Philippines that first invested heavily in cybersecurity and data privacy. A lot of people on our team are given opportunities to travel abroad to learn all the latest technologies to really enrich ourselves and grow more professionally. I think that’s the advantage of working at Globe: our leaders are invested in our continuous learning. 

There’s also a lot of flexibility. We can work from absolutely anywhere and still be sure that we produce the same great outcome.

Ultimately, what makes working at Globe different is that you see a real impact on the lives of the people you serve. During the COVID-19 pandemic, for example, you see how customers were able to connect with each other because of Globe. Essential services like banking and education were made accessible to people, even if they were at home. That had a huge impact on their lives, at a time when they needed it most.

I look forward to continuing my work in the field of data privacy and governance, risk, and compliance while promoting my advocacies at the same time. I’m happy that Globe allows me to do both – in my work in data privacy, I’m able to contribute to social good by advocating for online safety and children’s privacy, which is especially dear to me as a mother of three young children. I'm happy that doing my work here at Globe also allows me to do something good for my children.
