From Gamer to Kicker: Finding My Tribe at Globe

Updated: Jan 8

Ka-Globe na nakaladkad lang sa G-Clubs, naging football champion bigla? Hear the story of Louie Batalla, who found his place in the Globe Football Club despite being a newbie to the sport.

As a dedicated gamer, "physical activity" wasn't exactly in my vocabulary. My reflexes were lightning-fast in the virtual world, but my real-world fitness level? Well, let's just say I was more comfortable navigating couch cushions than conquering the field.

So what made me lace up my boots and take the plunge into the world of football? It all started with a desire to try something new and a nudge from an enthusiastic work friend.

My biggest worry then was joining a team as a complete beginner. Globe Football Club quickly blew those worries away. The club was incredibly welcoming. Seasoned players were happy to guide me through the basics, fostering a strong sense of community. It wasn't just about competition; it was about learning and growing together.

My favorite part of becoming a Globe FC member is the weekly open plays. They became my post-work MVP (Most Valuable Playtime). It was a chance to unwind, bond, and develop an entirely new skillset, one that involved more footwork and less button-mashing.

Honestly, the biggest surprise has been the personal growth I've experienced. It wasn't just about kicking a ball. Week after week, I witnessed my own transformation, from increased stamina, my passing becoming more precise, first touch (receiving the ball), defending, to doing the right positioning to make or take an open space. The feeling of accomplishment when I finally netted my first goal was unlike any I'd ever experienced in a video game.

Balancing the weekly open plays with my work schedule was surprisingly smooth. They were the perfect way to add a fun, social activity without a huge time commitment. It wasn't a struggle to fit them in, but a welcome addition to my routine.

Soon enough, our team spirit translated into actual trophies! We even managed to snag first place in both the GFL (Globe Football League*) and CFL (Corporate Football League**) leagues during my first year. Participating in the GFL was an amazing introduction to the sport, filled with supportive teammates and a focus on learning the fundamentals. Then came the CFL, where we continued to refine our skills and build on our already strong teamwork. Witnessing the team's success solidified the incredible and supportive environment of the Globe Football Club.

Being part of the Globe Football Club is a fantastic example of how our company culture

goes beyond the office walls. It's a testament to the encouragement of individuality and

personal growth, even if that growth involves trading a controller for cleats.

So, to my fellow Ka-Globe out there, don't be hesitant to step outside your comfort zone! The Globe Football Club is one of the active G-Clubs we can join and I am sure that they are also a welcoming community waiting to share its passion. You might just discover hidden talents or interests while developing a healthy new hobby and having fun.
