It's a Slam Dunk for Finance & Administration

Updated: Jan 8, 2025

Last year, we renewed our commitment to our values and traversed the Globe Way together. Let’s look back on our journey so far.

Read about our Ka-Globe from Finance & Administration, the champions of last year’s GDay Floor Decoration Contest, and the story of their game-winning shot.

Picture this: you step into the exciting world of the SEA Games. The air sizzles with anticipation and the crowd goes wild. National flags hang proudly in the background. In front of you are six basketball rings, and players score slam dunk after slam dunk.

You are, of course, not actually at the games but at TGT’s 10th floor; face-to-face not with Team Pilipinas but Team PiliFinance – which, if we think about it, is close enough.

GDay has always been a celebration of the great things we can do when we’re all together, bringing to life our value of, “We value people and together we make the difference.” This year’s Floor Decoration Contest saw different groups put their own spin on teamwork, from dressing up as movie characters to Finance & Administration’s mini SEA Games.

“Whether athletes from different countries or finance professionals from various disciplines, the shared commitment to a common objective fosters a sense of togetherness and the realization that collective efforts can lead to remarkable results,” said Bernie Castelo, Marketing & General Purchases Manager.

Making the contest more meaningful is the inclusion of Globe Way Commitments, where Ka-Globe wrote down and shared short pledges about upholding our values. GDay, after all, is a celebration of us, and the Globe Way encapsulates who we are and what we stand for.

Bernie was proud to share that his Ka-Finance all had the opportunity to share their commitments through colored cubes. In line with the SEA Games theme, they used basketball rings to represent the six Globe Way values.

“We encouraged every member of the Ka-Finance team to take their shot by tossing their selected Globe Way commitment cubes into the corresponding shooting ring. This fun exercise allowed us to gauge which of the Globe Way Values received the highest number of commitment cubes, highlighting the values that resonate most with our team.”

The act of articulating our commitments and making the values our own, according to Bernie, “ensures a shared understanding of goals” and “fosters a sense of accountability.” When each individual is conscious of their role in achieving shared objectives, the team becomes more responsible and motivated.

As such, members of Finance & Administration got to keep their commitment cubes as a reminder of their promise to live out the Globe Way; a reminder to always be there for their Ka-Finance and keep making a difference in our customers’ lives.

“We’re more than just colleagues. We're a support system, sharing both the weight of the tough conversations and the joy of the positive ones,” Bernie shared. “While our job in Finance often means navigating through difficult conversations, it's also about those rewarding moments and the strong bond we share as a team.”

Any basketball player, regardless of skill or stature, cannot win without their team. Behind every point on the court is mutual trust and a commitment to a shared vision. While our Ka-Globe from Finance & Administration may not be part of the actual SEA Games, their teamwork puts them at par with the strongest sports teams.
