Dropping Beats, Not the Ball: How Globe’s 917Crew Danced Their Way to Wellness and Victory
After a two-year hiatus, the Ayala Group Streetdance Competition returned with a bang at the UP-Ayala Technohub last September 19. Amidst the roaring crowds and electric energy, Globe’s very own 917Crew took to the stage, going head-to-head with heavy hitters from St. Joseph Drug Store (AC Health), Ayala Corporation, and Ayala Land.

Led by Team Captain Mikhaela Cañamo, the team’s passion and months of intense training paid off as they proudly hoisted the trophy, securing 3rd place after years of heartbreak.
But beyond the dynamic choreography, synchronized moves, and shiny hardware, the true win was the profound impact this journey had on the athletes’ overall well-being, confidence, and camaraderie.

More Than Just Moves: Dance as a Pillar of Wellness
Globe prides itself on its wellness programs, making sure it’s not just another buzzword. For the members of 917Crew, committing to months of rigorous physical training proved to be a refreshing outlet to recharge, de-stress, and reclaim their personal identity outside of the typical workday.
"It was nice to know that after pulling in the work hours, you have something to look forward to after work. I am thankful that Globe has this space or outlet for their employees. It gives you a feeling that you are not your work and you have a human identity to live."
— Francine "Franz" Turo
Whether navigating tight project timelines or complex deliverables, hitting the dance floor served as a sanctuary where work stress simply faded away.
"Dancing became a way for me to relieve stress from work and life. It made things feel more manageable and gave me something to look forward to... All of the stress fades away when I'm dancing."
— Knoxie Suarez

Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone & Building Confidence
Facing a large crowd after two years off the competition floor naturally brought pre-show jitters and self-doubt. Yet, overcoming late nights, long commutes, and tricky steps built a mental toughness that translated directly into their day-to-day work confidence.
"It was knowing that I am not alone in this competition. I always believed in my team hehe. All I had in mind was just to enjoy and own the stage."
— Arsher Basilio
The shared goal and mutual encouragement transformed butterflies into energy, proving that taking on tough challenges—on stage or in the office—is best done as a team.

Stronger Together: A Bond Beyond the Dance Floor
Perhaps the greatest victory of the Ayala Group Streetdance Competition was the community it fostered. What started as a crew of colleagues quickly turned into a tight-knit family.
"Being part of the team helped me build a stronger connection with my teammates and colleagues. I came to see them not just as teammates, but as my siblings and family... This experience made me realize that being part of a team is not just about performing together, but creating a bond that goes beyond the competition."
— Knoxie Suarez
Team Captain Mikhaela "Kai" Cañamo reflected on how much the community has grown and what performing for Globe truly means:
"My favorite part is rebuilding the 917Crew club from 6 to 100+ members... Being able to represent Globe with pride is irreplaceable by any medals and trophies. Every single time I’ve committed, sacrificed, and stayed consistent, the progress just followed. This journey is one for the books, and I’ve gained friendships that I will cherish forever."
— Kai Cañamo

Ready for Your Own Sidequest?
Whether you're an experienced performer or someone who just wants to try something new, Globe’s employee clubs (G-Clubs) offer endless opportunities to grow, unwind, and build lasting relationships.
As Franz puts it: "Don’t be afraid to try a new activity or hobby. Let’s live outside of our 9-5. Sidequest maxxing lang tayo for work-life balance!"

Congratulations once again to the 917Crew for bringing home 3rd place and exemplifying what it means to live, work, and thrive at Globe! 💙🕺✨
