Behind the Firewall: Securing the Digital Landscape at Globe

When I first joined Globe 17 years ago, I didn’t anticipate that testing international SIM cards would be the first step in a career of tackling threats to global communication networks. It was 2006, and the telecom industry was evolving rapidly. My role in the Network Technology Group (NTG) was technical and meticulous, but it was also the starting point for what would become a relentless pursuit of securing connections in a world that thrives on them.

Today, as a member of the Signaling Security team within Globe's Corporate Legal and Services Group, my mission is clear: to outpace adversaries in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

One of the cornerstone projects my team delivered—back when we were part of the Information Security and Data Privacy (ISDP) group—was the implementation of SMS Firewalls. This initiative marked a pivotal move in combating phishing attacks that compromise user trust. By blocking unauthorized senders and establishing a formal registration process for Sender IDs, we not only strengthened Globe’s network defenses but also raised the bar for security standards across the industry.

Knowing I can protect millions of Globe subscribers while still showing up for the people who matter most is a rare privilege.

But success didn’t stop at our own gates. The insights we gained became a framework for collaboration. Through partnerships with GSMA’s Fraud and Security Group, banks, financial institutions, and major e-commerce players like Shopee and Lazada, we expanded the fight against fraudulent communication to an industry-wide effort. These collaborations weren’t just about solving immediate problems—they were about reshaping how entire sectors approached security.

What makes this journey especially meaningful for me is that I’ve been able to do it all while staying present for my family. Globe’s culture of flexibility and support has allowed me to balance the demands of leading high-stakes security initiatives with the joys of motherhood. Whether it’s attending my son’s school field trips, cheering him on at field demonstrations, or simply being there for milestone moments, I’ve never had to choose between my career and my family.

This balance isn’t just about time—it’s about purpose. Knowing I can protect millions of Globe subscribers while still showing up for the people who matter most is a rare privilege.
